About Barrel Plating
Barrel Plating Services
Barrel plating is a cost-effective electroplating method ideal for coating high volumes of small, durable parts simultaneously. Titan Plating offers specialised barrel plating services, delivering uniform, high-quality coatings with a focus on fast turnaround to meet your project deadlines. Our processes ensure reliable performance for components across various industries, enhancing durability and functionality.

Barrel Plating in Electroplating
Barrel plating uses a rotating, nonconductive barrel to coat small parts with metals like copper, nickel, palladium, silver, tin, zinc, or gold. This method is suited for components that can withstand tumbling without damage, providing a cost-effective solution for high-volume production. It is not recommended for delicate or ornamental finishes due to part-on-part contact.
Benefits of Barrel Plating
Barrel plating offers several advantages:
-
High Volume Efficiency: Plates multiple parts at once, saving time and reducing costs.
-
Single-Vessel Processing: Cleaning, rinsing, pickling, and sealing occur in one vessel, minimizing handling.
-
Versatility: Suitable for various part sizes and shapes that fit within the barrel.
-
Uniform Finish: Cascading action and bipolar contact ensure consistent coatings.
-
Cost-Effective: Lower equipment investment reduces overall plating costs.
Applications of Barrel Plating
Barrel plating is used in various applications:
-
Connectors and Fasteners: Coats small electrical and mechanical components for conductivity and corrosion resistance.
-
Contact Pins: Enhances durability and solderability in electronic parts.
-
Small Hardware: Provides protective coatings for screws, nuts, and bolts.
Industries Using Barrel Plating
Titan Plating provides barrel plating for diverse industries:
-
Electronics: For connectors, pins, and small circuit components.
-
Automotive: In electrical and corrosion-resistant parts like fasteners.
-
General Manufacturing: For cost-effective coating of small hardware.
-
Telecommunications: In components requiring conductivity and durability.
Barrel Plating Process
Titan Plating employs precise barrel plating methods:
-
Barrel Types: Horizontal barrels handle larger volumes (up to 17 cubic feet for production barrels), with portable and miniature options for smaller runs. Oblique barrels suit smaller, delicate workloads with reduced tumbling.
-
Process: Parts are placed in a nonconductive barrel submerged in an electrolyte solution. Slow rotation enables bipolar contact between parts, driving efficient metal deposition. The process includes cleaning, rinsing, and sealing in the same vessel for efficiency.
The process begins with thorough substrate preparation to ensure adhesion. The barrel rotates in a tank with the chosen metal electrolyte, and an electric current deposits the coating. Post-plating includes rinsing and drying. Our fast-turnaround ensures quality and efficiency.
